In the spring of 1985, I was playing basketball against three kids averaging 10 years old. I went for a driving layup and ruptured my left patellar tendon. During my recovery (which was 11 months long) I noticed fellows flying model aircraft in a local, very large parking lot. I visited with them and became enamored with R/C aircraft. I then purchased a Goldberg Eagle 63 kit and a HB .40 engine. I built it and attempted to fly it myself and well, it ended up upside down and crashed!
To make a long story short, I sought help from the same fellows I visited previously and in a couple of months I had flying down! I progressed and eventually ended up flying ducted fan aircraft and won many awards at various fly-ins, with a Byron Originals F-16. In the year 2000, I became president of the San Antonio Prop Busters through 2004. After losing our field, I became inactive in the hobby until 2021. I now have a menagerie of around 20 electrics ranging from several jets to propeller driven and multi-engine aircraft. I look forward to joining a club very soon again and I haven't lost any desire to fly!
