In 1961, when I was 7 years old, I assisted my 17 year old brother (AMA 22009) with his Nordic glider and U/C stunt and combat flying. He competed in some local AMA events. He died at the age of 18 from a brain tumor. At the age of 8, I inherited his planes and unfinished kits. I was afraid to fly any of them until I was married and 20 years old. I especially loved U/C but the RC bug hit me in 1977 and I maintained AMA membership (AMA 22284) since 1978.
I was active in our Norfalcon RC club in Norfolk, NE until I retired in 2016 and moved to TX and joined the Tri-Cities and Shoreline Aeronauts clubs in the San Antonio area. I designed and scratch built several aerobatic and novelty planes through the years but now even fly a few electric foamies. I love how the planes and radio equipment have evolved and improved over the years. More importantly, the cost of getting into RC flying is so much less today than it was 50 years ago. Now that I'm well into my 70s, it's great to be part of this timeless hobby and interact with other pilots.
