Third generation Alaskan who grew up loving airplanes. Started with plastic models to guillows rubber band powered models. One day 12-year-old me was perusing a JC Penny Christmas catalog and saw an ad for a RC Lazy Bee with a Cox .049 in it… I was enamored by the idea of controlling a flying model.
Santa brought it, my dad and I went to the beach and we saw an older gentleman flying an RC J3 cub, we watched it hit a rock and flip over. The guy helped us get airborne and watched me crash it over and over and over again as rubber bands flew through the air - I was hooked!
As I grew older so did my passion for model aircraft, ended up using that with my mechanical mind and went to an Aviation Maintenance Technician school for college. Joined my first club there and learned about AMA. Been a member ever since and continued to restart the dormant club in my hometown on Juneau Alaska. I fly almost everything with wings now (gliders, giant scale 3D, foamies, etc.).
I’m excited that my little boy has shown interest in RC and am going to try and foster that engagement as much as I can.
