Started flying control line in about 1977. Moved up to r/c planes in 1979. My first plane was an sig cadet with a k&b .40, Kraft radio. Built and flew several planes after that. Sig cougar, top flite falcon 56, a few others along the way.
Started flying pattern planes next. Competed around the southeast at numerous contests. I was always active in our club. I was asked to be a member of the local AMA air show team. We did events at local full scale air shows along with static displays at local malls in the early 80’s.
I graduated high school in 1981 and joined the Air Force. After the Air Force I got married had 3 kids, and after several years being away from the hobby it called me back. I got a 40 size trainer and it didn’t take long to learn again. A new Kaos, a cub, then a hanger 9 extra, a hanger 9 p-51, a couple of balsa USA kits. I became treasurer of our club. I was a member at 3 different clubs at one point. Now at 63 im slowing down to a few foamy electric planes to putter around with and a member at just one club. I still enjoy the hobby. It’s been a great hobby for most of my life. I’ve met some great people over the years and I still enjoy building airplanes as much as flying them. Currently im working on a 1/3 scale balsa USA pup. I have an old Jack Stanford twin Comanche to build. Looking forward to that one!!! I always look forward to going to Perry, Ga. Every year. You never know what you’ll find there. I always come home with something new to tinker with.
