Man holding a large model biplane on grass.

I became fascinated as a young lad watching my uncles fly Control Lines, such as Flight Streaks. By lad, I was around 7 at the time in the 1970's. At 10, I got my first Control Line, a Ring Master with an O.S. .35 engine. My uncle helped with the build, and he had me flying it during the maiden. In no time, I was doing all kinds of stunts. It is still in my hanger today, and I am in my 60s.

Of course, the next step was RC. The hobby has changed so much over the years and keeping up can be a challenge. Thanks to AMA and social media, such as YouTube, learning to keep up is easy, even if it has been a few years since you have flown. The choices in models is almost endless. The vendors are also working hard to keep the hobby going with beginner and advanced options. Not just planes, but helicopters, boats, cars, trucks...letting you relive backyard childhood dreams!

The great benefit of this hobby is introducing kids to what AMA is doing, the history of modeling and friendly competition while growing into a master. So, find someone today or get back into the swing. AMA can help point you in the right direction!
