Joseph Ziolkowski Biography

-A A +A

I began my model flying with U-Control, a balsa trainer with a Cameron .19 and Joined AMA in the 1950's. I still have my AMA issued number 9550. The flying in Waukesha, Wisconsin was promoted by the local hobby shop, The Hobby Horse.

Planes to follow were the Ringmaster,  Barnstormer, Veco Scout, Smoothie and the Veco Thunderbird stunt. The Nobler was very hot at contests that beat me out for points. Bob Gialdini was a local stunt champ competitor with his design. I competed in AMA flying events in Milwaukee with junior stunt, and rat racing.

High school days were models in Jetex free flight, many more ukies then escapement RC, and finally by college in the '60s proportional control RC. I have a BSEE from University of Wisconsin, became a hybrid circuit designer and a component engineer.

My main interest stayed with RC planes, cars and boats and the electronic components used with this hobby.

I have grand kids to continue building and flying a ringmaster, drone, RC car track racing and 2 helicopters. 3 years spent building a basement HO train layout at the grandkids house. I'm soon to be 82 but proud to share the experience. I kept active in hobbies and my AMA 9550. So many advances, like powerful electric motors and better battery technology to keep learning from others.
